James Evans, Executive Chef brings a wealth of experience, education and expertise to the exquisite design and implementation of Sushi Lounge on Market’s delightful menu. Chef Evans’ early sushi roots began with studying under Chef Juri Watanabe, a certified Master Chef from Osaka, Japan. Prior to joining the Sushi Lounge team he held positions at a number of notable San Diego restaurants, including co-founding Azuki Sushi and working as Executive Chef at Ono Sushi for 10+ years.
Born in Okinawa, Japan and making the permanent move to San Diego at age 9, Chef Evans has been immersed in the culinary world for over 20 years. He views his work not just as a creative outlet, but also as a continuous exercise in discipline and strategy. This mentality shines through in his attention to detail and commitment to his food and his guests. A hard worker and eternal student, Chef James stresses keeping an open mind to food and exploring new dishes. His greatest reward is cooking, crafting and preparing delicious fare for people who love to eat.
When Chef finds a moment outside of the kitchen, he enjoys catching up on the rest that life has to offer.
